To Whom it May Concern

     To Whom it May Concern is an original play written by the students of Estancia’s production drama. They performed on January 17 through the 19th at the Barbara Van Holt Theater located in Estancia’s High School. Estancia’s drama teacher Pauline Maranian and Carlo Odicino worked together to produce the show. The play is based off of 4 different scenes. Each scene covered a different situation based on students, families, children, parents and peers from Costa Mesa. These stories are based on real life scenarios presented by members of Estancia’s student body. Each of the four scenes covered topics such as anxiety, depression, immigration, finances and the common struggles that many of us share.
     Under Pressure was about a Mexican household with two parents who came to the U.S. as immigrants with hopes to provide their children with a better lifestyle. The youngest child Jordan was the only child in the family with the a goal to go to college, however, his parents were not supportive of his decision. Like many immigrant families they wanted him to work to provide for the family.
​     Easy Street was about a family struggling financially. The father was unemployed with nothing to little luck with finding a job, a mother who worked day in and day out cleaning houses, and a daughter who wishes her family didn’t have to struggle anymore. The episode gave two different points of views of the story. One being the family that doesn’t have money, and another family that has more than enough money but are a broken family.
    Being able to relate to these two episodes brought a mix of emotions. They were so relatable that it was as if I was seeing my family up on stage. My parents came to the U.S to give my siblings a better life than the one that they had. With me being the only girl in the household my dad was completely against me wanting to go to college just like Jordan’s family.  Till this day I struggle with my parents being accepting of what I want to do with my future. Just like in Easy Street, my dad is unemployed and money plays a major role in my family. With my mom being our only source of income we struggle trying to keep everyone at home happy.
     For To Whom it May Concern being my first ever play I am glad to say that I had a great experience. The play was well organized and the students were incredible with their acting skills. I was able to notice the amount of emotions put into each episode. The four stories show how regardless of one’s issue they are not alone. The play was written by the drama students and It was no surprise that all three shows were sold out.
