The Sun Doesn't Shine

The Sun is Also a Star was released May 17, 2019 to all theaters nationwide. It was directed by Ry Russo-Young, an American director from New York City who also released the hit movie Before I Fall.
The main characters Yara Shahidi as Natasha Kingsley and Charles Melton as Daniel Jae Ho Bae tells the story of Kingsley (Shahidi) who believes in science and facts and not fate as she looks for a way to go back to Jamaica in an attempt to avoid deportation. It also follows Jae Ho Bae (Melton) on his journey to becoming a doctor.
Jae Ho Bae was always the good kid, living up to his parents high expectations. Jae Ho Bae on his way to a important meeting sees Kingsley from across the train station. Something about Kingsley makes him think that fate has something much more in store. After taking many different trains is set on trying to find her. He intervenes and saves her life.
Although I don't really enjoyed the movie the actors really made the movie believable. In almost every scene there emotions seemed real. I think they chose good actors to play each characters . Overall this movie was an okay movie I would not pay to see this movie at least not in theaters. I would rate this movie a 7/10 and a C.

OC Night Market

The OC Night Market comes to town three times a year on dates: May 17-19, June 14-16, and  August 23-25. As of 2019, it’s the sixth year of the market being at the OC Fair and Event Center. Besides eating a lot of junk-food and uncommon recipes, you can indulge in eating contests, watch live performances, and stroll through the artwalk (art for sale). You can also try some Ramen in a cup or some delicious funnel cakes. The event opens at 4pm and ends at 12am all nights.
The majority of the vendors sell food items that are priced at around $10. Raul Hernandez, senior at Estancia High, ate at Friedays and shared his opinion afterwards. After eating Friedays’ pizza fries he said “they were really good… it exceeded my expectations”. If you want to visit the OC Night Market then you should be aware of its atmosphere.
Juan Uribe, another senior at Estancia High, says that “the atmosphere was very inviting and encouraging for people to come together and explore a different culture”. If there aren’t any live performances in the moment there is hip-hop music booming throughout the whole premises. All of the eating is outside due to vendors location, so wear outdoor clothing as well as comfortable shoes.
The OC Night Market attracts large sums of people so obtaining a place to sit and eat proves to be quite difficult. Another thing to take in to consideration is the waiting lines, many people come to the market so the lines tend to get long. If you are willing to wait a little longer to try out some unique foods then definitely give the OC Night Market a shot.

Homecoming, a new documentary available on Netflix, is written by Beyoncé, produced by Carter (the executive producer), and Dora Melissa Vargas. It stars Beyoncé, Jay-Z, and their children. The documentary first premiered on Netflix on April 17th, 2019 and features live performances of Beyonce’s songs performed at Coachella.
Homecoming is more about the aspects of Beyoncé’s life from being a famous pop star and didn’t reveal much about her childhood. Although, she did share how much work was put into the performance behind the scenes. She also shares the meaning behind her performances that most people might have not noticed until they watch this. Her explanations help the viewers connect the puzzle pieces of the deeper meaning.  Beyoncé was able to use her voice to express the ideals and importance of both black culture and black college culture.
Also seen in the film, Beyoncé shares her pregnancy struggles with the world and explains how she had to work out and eat no carbs in order for her to lose weight and be able to fit into her costumes. She did mention how she got rusty in dancing because she hadn’t danced in so long and got weak in certain muscles that wouldn’t allow her perform as she used to. All of these issues acted as a wakeup call for her, so she had to work incredibly hard in order to do her next performance at Coachella where she would be the first black woman to headline the festival. After much disciplined work, she accomplished in fitting into her old suit.
Beyoncé serves as inspiration to anybody and everybody. She is living proof that anything is possible no matter how hard one thinks it is, you just have to set your mind to it. It may get difficult at times, but as long as you are trying you will get closer to your goal. Also, Beyoncé never lost her identity even after becoming famous she carries it within her performances. That is something everybody should look up to because sometimes we forget where we came from due to money or fame. It proves how you can have everything and keep your identity, your past, your family, your culture, etc. The word “documentary” can be turn off many people but trust me when I say this documentary will not bore you! It is a well deserved A.

Last Summer Review

The Last Summer, a new movie on Netflix, came out on May 3rd, 2019. It was directed by William Bindley, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Scott Bindley. The two main film stars are KJ Apa and Maia Mitchell. KJ Apa is well known from the current show called Riverdale and Maia Mitchell is most likely known from The Fostersand Teen Beach Movie. The film’s genre is an American romantic comedy. This movie’s targeted audience is teenagers, specifically seniors graduating high school.
This movie expresses the sense of a entering new chapter in one’s life. The new chapter after high school may lead to getting a higher education or even training for a specific career, but no matter what path one takes - it’s filled with good-byes to the past and hellos to new beginnings. Throughout the movie, it shows activities that the main characters did during their summer because it was their final break before they went their separate ways to college. Their summer was filled with various activities for them such as jobs, parties, family problems, working hard for that last-minute scholarship to ensure financial needs from their desired school, internships, etc.
It’s a very accurate film in many aspects when it comes to the summer activities, saying goodbye to friends and family, and most importantly in its of portrayal of unexpected family problems. The film is not just accurate, but it’s also very relatable for seniors that are graduating. It shows points of view from not only different races, but different members of subgroups - popular and the more quiet. It really does get a good grip on the average high-schooler’s life. Even if the viewer doesn’t relate to one of the groups shown, the stories within the groups consist of something different that anybody can relate to. This film is similar to The Perfect Date since the time period is also a senior year in a high school. It’s a different storyline but both movies are similar. If you enjoyed The Perfect Date, then you will love this movie. The Last Summer gets an A+.
