Fashion Week is the most anticipated event in the fashion industry. What is fashion week? Fashion week is a series of designer presentations held biannually in Paris, Londen, Milan, and New York, with spring/summer and autumn/winter events held each year. Fashion week took place in Paris ( Monday, September 23-Tuesday-October 1) and New York (September 6-Saturday, September 14). Dates are determined by the French Fashion Federation for Paris and CFDA for New York. Fashion Week is held at venues throughout the cities.
Fashion Week is part of the “Big 4”, which means four cities. Each of these cities is a fashion capital of the world. Fashion week happens twice a year in the major fashion capitals of the world; New York, London , Milan and Paris. Models walk the runway and show different types of styles. An example can be haute couture, which is held semiannually for the spring/summer and autumn/winter seasons. In addition, every year, famous brands like Dior, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Givenchy, and Céline host their shows in historical places such as the Carrousel du Louvre and the Grand Palais.
The first Fashion Week was held in 1945 in the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture established another set of rules to regulate and determine Haute Couture houses. In order to meet the criteria, the house had to ensure they followed the updated rules including in each season, a couture house must present a collection of at least 35 runs with both daytime and evening wear to the Paris press. Others included having at least 20 members on staff, and that every design must include fittings and be made-to-order for the clientele.
The next Fashion Week will start in New York from Feb 6- Feb 13, London will be next Feb 14- Feb 18 and last will be Milan from Feb 18- Feb 24.
