On Friday, March 15, 2019 the city of Christchurch, New Zealand was shocked over the shooting deaths of 49 people. The shootings were said to be an act of terrorism towards the Christchurch mosques that day.
The first attack took place in the Al Noor Mosque at 1:40 p.m., while the other attack started at 1:55 p.m. in the Linwood Islamic Center.  The combined shootings left seven dead at the Linwood Mosque and 41 others dead in the Al Noor Mosque with a 42 which died later at the Christchurch Hospital.
There have been many church and school shootings over the years, but no action has been taken to prevent the shootings from occurring. Within 72 hours of the Christchurch shooting a law was proposed to ban military-style semi-automatic and assault rifles. After the incident action was taken, Jacinda Ardern the Prime Minister of New Zealand made sure to put an end to this gun violence. Families will no longer live in constant fear that another tragedy such as the Christchurch shooting will be repeated.
If the government does not take any action the number will increase. If the rest of the U.S. government were to do the exact thing as the New Zealand government there would be less shootings. There was 262 American mass shootings in the United States in 2018 alone. Without a doubt, our system needs to put politics aside and put the lives of the American people first.
