The Estancia Eagles Varsity basketball team made an appearance at the CIF playoffs against Tarbut V’Torah on February 12 coming away with an impressive win 77-43. It has been a long 15 years since the Eagles have surfaced at a CIF game. Estancia’s starting five were Junior, Bo Graham, Junior, Lawrence Andres, Senior, Jake Covey, Senior, Brandon Pearson, and Junior Franklin DeBrum.
Estancia got off to a quick start on the scoreboard and played some tough defense ending the 1st quarter where the Eagles led 17-8 against Tarbut V’Torah.
To start the 2nd quarter the Eagles continued to lead against Tarbut V’Torah. The team kept up the same energy level as the crowd throughout the 2nd quarter. The Eagles led going into halftime with a 13 point lead, 31-18.
In the 3rd quarter, Tarbut V’Torah got into foul trouble which brought on the opportunity for free throws for the Eagles allowing them to pad their lead by 36 points. Estancia pulled ahead 62-26 to end the third quarter.
The 4th quarter brought on a struggle for the ball several times but that did not affect the Eagles’ lead. Estancia continued to keep up their defense throughout the fourth quarter with a final score of 74-33.

On January 10, at Estancia High School, Estancia played in the league match against Saddleback.At the 28:50 min marked, Marcos Arreola (#10) scored from the 25 yard line. When there was 8 min left for the first half, Marcos Arreola scored again. The first half finished with a score of 2-0, Saddleback with 0 and Estancia 2.
In the first half Saddleback tried many times to score but the Cesar Pedroza A. from Estancia stop them. Both teams came back from the locker and started to warm up to start the second half of the game. During the second half of the game, there were a lot of fouls that the referee did not mark. Some of the players from Estancia and the coach were mad because of the referee was not marking them.
One of the players of Saddleback got a yellow card for putting his hands in the face of one of the players of Estancia. After that happened, time when by and there was 6 min left for the game to finish when other player of Estancia scored. His name was Esteban, now the game was 3-0. At the 3 min mark Saddleback scored a corner kick, the game was at 3-1. One of the players of Estancia, Alessandro Madrigal actually got hit in his private parts and was laying down rolling around while the sports med came to help him while Saddleback coach was yelling “ He should get help outside, time is running out.” while the referee told him to calm down
The game ended up in 4-1 with Estancia winning, they will be going up against Costa Mesa High School on January 15 ,2020, who Estancia will attempt to move on its 2-10 season record.
