On Thursday, April 4, both Costa Mesa High School (3-4) and Estancia High School's (1-6) boys volleyball teams competed in their annual Battle of the Game at Estancia High School.
The game started out in Costa Mesa's favor, giving the team the lead in the first two sets. By this point, the team seemed confident that they would get a clean sweep against Estancia. However, in the third set, Estancia turned the game around completely. Junior, outside hitter, Arthur Bishop came in with many kills that ultimately helped Estancia take the third set.
In the fourth set, Estancia came in with the same fire and managed to win the set after Sophomore, Luke Hutchinson served an ace for the final 25th point. Now at a tie of 2-2, the teams fought to win the final set. After many intense rallies, junior, Arthur Bishop, got the final kill that led Estancia to win the game. Despite Costa Mesa's better record at 8-14 versus Estancia's overall record of 3-24, the two teams were matched evenly in all aspects of the game this night.
Estancia will be playing the Santa Ana Saints on Tuesday, April 16, at 4:00 PM at home.
